10 May Fromista to Caldadilla de la Cureza 25 more miles. 2km more and we will be half way.

The thought of the day

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”

― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky

Yesterdays rain was todays clouds. The plan is to make a couple of long days of walking so we could take it easy as we move closer to Santiago. Fromista is a very quiet village but it is the owner of a church that has the most design examples of the Roma times. See the photos.

I moved on down the road and took the very muddy trail by the water cannel that lead me to a the small village of Villalcazar de Sirga where I would find the Cathedral of Santa Maria la Blanca. This was the headquarters of the Knights of Templar that has been dedicated a National Monument. The church was not opened but I was able to take a few pictures of the outside. I was able to set at the table with San Pablo the mayor of Villalcazar.

On to Carrion for the completion of the first segment of the days journey. The Church of Santiago in old town was open so we went in to be greeted by a golden alter dome that glisten as the light beamed in from the stained glass windows . Magnificent. see photos.

The walk through Carrion was very enjoyable as we passed over the Rio Carrion and the Monastery San Zoilo to join up with the Camino trail. The road to Caldadilla lay ahead, no turns, just straight for over 10 miles. It was a long walk. No water available. It made one wonder what this would be like in the summer with high temperatures. The Camino Real was insight around 4 PM and the long days journey was over. 11 hours of walking, enough for any Pilgrim. The high plains of Spain continue on, another good day.
